The Light Has Come

“Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year”

I am sure as you read this verse you can hear the tune and sing along.  What a great thought.  Christmas time is here and it is our favorite time of year!

Why is it our favorite time of year?  Is there a right answer?  I love the time spent with people that we love.  I like the white Christmas element of living in the Upper Midwest.  Put both of those together and it means skiing with friends and family.  My favorite time of year!

It is also my favorite time of year because of what we celebrate.  I am not saying this because I am a pastor and it is the right answer.  I am saying it because I mean it.

Jesus came into this world.  He was the light.  We were living in the dark.  Now we don’t have to.  Ever been in the dark?  It is not a fun place to be.  Yet our natural bent is to stay in the dark.

John 3:19-21 tells us this:

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

We lived in the dark.  The light came into the world and now we can live in truth and light.  Why?  Because of the fact that God Himself stepped into this world on Christmas and was born in a manger.  Therefore we can step into the light and have eternal life.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

This is Good News and the main reason why I love this time of year.  The light has come!

Enjoy this time of year.  I hope it is your favorite because you too are excited that the light has come.  Tis the season!
